Are your pet's up to date on their vaccines? Have you wondered why we vaccinate for the things we do?
August is Vaccine Awareness Month. Vaccines are an important tool in Preventive Care for our pets. Vaccines are used to prevent many serious illnesses that were once prevalent, but are now well-controlled. Below is a description of the vaccines we use in our area and what we are protecting against.
As required by law, we vaccinate against Rabies in all of our dog and cat patients. Rabies is a virus that affects the central nervous system and the brain. When symptoms appear, the disease is almost always fatal. It affects all mammals and can be transmitted between species, including to humans.
In this area, in dogs, we also vaccinate against Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Leptospirosis (DAPP-L).
In this area, in cats, we also vaccinate against Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia (FVRCP) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV).
If you pet is past due on vaccines, or if you just have questions about the best protocol for your pet, give us a call and we'll help you out! (208) 552-9825
